John Abrams: 2013 PMF

John became a PMF at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in July of 2013 learning all he could about NIH and the PMF Program at the NIH Training Center in the Office of Human Resources. Throughout the course of his various rotations in the program, he was active in numerous PMF-related activities, including leadership roles in recruitment outreach, volunteer activities, and orientation for the following class of PMFs. In his second year of the program, John was focused more on finding the right conversion position at NIH when a unique opportunity presented itself.  At that time, the PMF Program Manager at NIH had just accepted another job and the agency needed someone to help operate the program. John stepped in to assist in running the various program meetings and committees.

Halfway through his second year, John knew where he wanted to convert and NIH agreed with his choice. John's last rotation would be as the NIH PMF Recruitment Coordinator, leading to his final position as the NIH Agency PMF Coordinator upon conversion. Over his final five months as a PMF, John had the unique opportunity to witness both sides of the PMF Program as he helped with PMF recruitment at the 27 Institutes and Centers at NIH. Now in a supervisory role in the very program where he got his start, John is thankful for the opportunity and looks forward to further strengthening the PMF Program at NIH.
