2017 Application

How to Apply

The PMF Program solicits applicants annually via an announcement on USAJOBS ( The announcement will include detailed instructions on how to apply. 

NOTE:  You do NOT need a USAJOBS applicant user account to apply. Please follow the steps outlined under the "How to Apply" section in the announcement, which will take you to our apply site to create an applicant user account and to apply.

Allow approximately 3-4 hours to complete the entire application, to include: the biographical, eligibility, and demographics information; document submission; essay; and, on-line assessment.

Current Finalists who reapply will forfeit their status upon starting an application and accessing the on-line assessment. 

The steps identified below pertain to the steps outlined for the PMF Class of 2017 and serve as a reference.


Prepare Before You Start
Assemble your resume, transcript (and/or alternative), and supporting documents as referenced under Application Tips.


Check System Requirements
Check your system prior to starting your application to ensure you meet the specified requirements. Various browser and system requirements can be found under Application Process.


Create an Applicant User Account
Applicants can only create an applicant user account prior to the 2017 PMF application closing. Existing 2017 applicants can log into their account on the Apply Site at to update their contact information and check their application status.


Review the Announcement
From USAJOBS, enter "Presidential Management Fellows" as the keywords to search for the announcement. The announcement can only be found during the open period. 


Begin the Application
Log into your applicant user account to fill out contact, demographics, and eligibility information; submit documents; submit your application; complete the essay; and, complete the on-line assessment. Some of these features are only available when the application is open.


Submit Documentation
A resume and transcript (and/or alternative) is required. You must also submit supporting documentation for claiming veterans' preference, Indian Preference, and/or reasonable accommodations (if applicable).


Complete the Essay
You must submit an essay as part of your application. Follow the instructions in the announcement.


Complete the On-Line Assessment
You must complete the on-line assessment as part of the application and assessment process. Additional information can be found under the Assessment Process.


Application Review
Ensure you have completed the entire application and assessment process. Follow the steps outlined in the announcement. 


Check Application Status
Log into your applicant user account to check your application status. Applicants are responsible in ensuring all required steps have been completed.

We highly encourage applicants to apply early during the application period. Applying to the PMF Program does not guarantee a PMF appointment.
