Success Stories

Patti Reis: 2008 PMF

While working in the Seattle Regional Public Affairs Office, I was a member of the four-person team coordinating the February 2010 events marking the opening of Alaska's first disability hearings office. In addition to SSA Commissioner Michael Astrue and other SSA officials, the opening ceremony featured remarks by Alaska Senator Mark Begich. Additional events requiring planning for Commissioner Astrue included a visit to the Seattle Regional Office, media interviews in Alaska, and demonstrations of new video technology used by SSA offices.

During the planning stages, my responsibilities included anything from ceremony programs to confirming attendance by Alaska's senators, representative, and lieutenant governor. Once the events were underway, I served as the point of contact in Seattle for any issues encountered by Commissioner Astrue, regional SSA officials, or invited guests.

For my work on this project, I was awarded an SSA Office of Communications Deputy Commissioner's Citation in August 2010 and an Exemplary Contribution/Service Award in May 2010.
