Become a PMF

Application Process

Letters of Recommendation and Transcripts

You should not submit these documents to the PMF Program Office. The PMF Program does not consider letters of recommendation or transcripts as part of its application and assessment processes. However, if ultimately selected as a Finalist, some participating Federal Agencies may directly request a transcript to ensure fulfillment of graduate degree requirements and education qualifications.

Resume Tips

Applicants have the choice between building their on-line resumes via www.USAJOBS.gov External Link Icon or submitting their own resume. If not using USAJOBS to build a resume, the following are some tips you should consider adding to your resume, as most Federal Agency HR Offices are accustomed to seeing when applicants use USAJOBS:

  • Include all contact information (e.g., email address and home/cell phone numbers)
  • Identify your full name, including middle name
  • U.S. Citizenship: Yes/No
  • If claiming veterans' preference, be sure to reference in your resume (follow the application instructions on how to claim and submit supporting documentation for claiming veterans' preference)
  • Selective Service: Yes/No; all adult males born on or after January 1, 1960, must have registered for Selective Service between the ages of 18 through 25
  • If you ever worked for the Federal Government (e.g., as a student) include such time as work experience
  • For all work experience entries, include dates and salary ranges
  • Under education entries, include any honors, relevant coursework, licensures, and certifications
  • Include references with names, titles, phone numbers, email addresses, and reference type (profession/personal)
  • Include affiliations, volunteer work, professional publications you have contributed
  • Include an additional information section covering awards, leadership activities, public speaking engagements, skills, and availability

During the application process, applicants do NOT need to include a cover sheet with their resume.  However, if ultimately selected as a Finalist, some hiring agencies may request a cover letter with your resume.
